Go Bar Hopping & Dancing in Paia Town

The historical town of Paia is a great spot for a night of bar hopping, live music, and dancing. After a day in the sun, take a break and enjoy everything Maui’s North Shore has to offer visitors after dark. A hand full of Paia Town’s restaurants and bars offer happy hour from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm daily.

We suggest starting your happy hour at Milagros for a tasty signature margarita or an ice-cold Maui Brewing Company beer. Pair this with the daily happy hour food special before wandering across the street to Café Des Amis where happy hour continues. Here, visitors can enjoy half-priced drinks and yummy snacks to nosh in a charming courtyard with nightly live music. We love the refreshing Lilikoi Margarita’s served here, and you can pair it with the Mediterranean Plate for tasty perfection. Roll into Rock & Brews before 6 pm and try a happy hour beer on tap. They have the most extensive selection of international and craft beers in town. The restaurant also sports a full bar and large-table seating for big gatherings.

After happy hour, head on over to Charley’s Restaurant and Saloon. Charley’s is intricately correlated with local legend Willie Nelson, and its history goes all the way back to 1969. Charley’s is undoubtedly the North Shore’s staple for live music. In fact, you will find live music here almost every single night of the year.
They offer weekly events like Monday night’s Live Band Open Mic & Jam and Thursday’s Bluesy night with Mark Johnstone & Friends. On Fridays and Saturdays, you will find concerts with music genres ranging from Reggae, Rock ‘n Roll, Bluegrass, electronic DJ´s as well as some amazing cover bands. This is the perfect place to dance the night away in Paia Town.

Visit Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC)

When planning your upcoming vacation on Maui, check out the event schedule at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center (MACC). Opening its doors in 1994, the MACC is Maui’s top-notch performing arts complex located in the heart of Kahului.

This amazing center has been offering an array of Hawaiian cultural programs, performing arts, live music, theater, and dance performances for years. Guests will also enjoy movie screenings inside, or if you’re lucky, outside under the stars.
Check out one of Maui’s special music events in the MACC’s Castle Theater or at one of the ongoing cultural events, like the Ku Mai Ka Hula competition. One of our favorite events held here is the family-friendly movie screening night, “Starry Night Cinema.” This is a free kid-friendly movie night under the stars. For a more mature crowd, ArT=Mix is one of Maui’s most popular events. This is an amazing 21 and over interactive event, for artists and guests to have the space to work together and connect on an artistic level.

Attend a Luau

Nothing engages you in Hawaiian Culture like experiencing a luau on Maui. This fun Hawaiian tradition is enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Traditionally, Hawaiian luaus begin with a lei greeting and a refreshing mai tai or tropical fruit punch. Most luau’s offer an open bar featuring many deliciously iconic, tropical drinks.

Prior to seating, Hawaiian arts and crafts are typically set up for purchase. Guest can participate in demonstrations of Hawaiian practices, such as husking a coconut and/or playing traditional games.
Of course, there will be an offering of everyone’s favorite, Kalua Pig, cooked the traditional way in an imu (Hawaiian underground oven). It’s unearthed just before dinner and served at a customary Imu Ceremony. Guest will also enjoy an array of other Hawaiian dishes commonly served at luaus, such as poi, a native Hawaiian staple that is made from Toro root, and of course fresh island fish. After dinner, the Polynesian dancing show begins with dances, music and featured costume from all of the chief Polynesian cultures.

When on the Valley Isle, you don’t want to miss out on the most unique and interactive experience that a luau offers. This is the most authentic after dark experience that will leave you with the most memorable impression of the true aloha that Maui embraces after the sun goes down.
