courses to
play on Maui
In fact, the Island of Maui offers some of the best golf courses in the world, including a few that host major tournament events including the PGA TOUR. So without further ado, please join me as we count down the best golf courses in Maui!
The Plantation Course at Kapalua Bay
Designed by Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, this miraculous 7,411-yard course has been consistently ranked as the #1 golf course in all of Hawaii. Located on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains near Kapalua Bay, this course offers the most dramatic ocean views and stunning scenery at every hole. Most famously, the Plantation Course is home to the PGA TOUR’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions each January.
King Kamehameha
Arriving at the #2 spot on our list, we find ourselves at Maui’s only 18-hole private golf club, King Kamehameha. Located on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains at 750 feet above sea level, this exceptional course offers stunning mountain and bi-coastal views in one of the most peaceful golf settings imaginable.
Ka’anapali Kai Course
If you’re looking for a course that’s easy-going, fun and scenic, then look no further than this highly accessible course. The 18-holes were originally designed to be over 6,388 yards by architect Arthur Jack Snyder back in 1967. Since then, the course has undergone major renovations and was re-designed by architect Robin Nelson in 2005.
Emerald Course at Wailea Golf Club
This unique course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Junior in 1994. The 18-hole course plays at a par-72 and offers exciting challenges along the way. Generous fairways, various teeing grounds and few forced carries are just a few of the reasons this course has been considered to be one of the most women-friendly courses in North America by Women & Golf.
The Bay Course at Kapalua
Beautifully landscaped and offering stunning ocean views with the Island of Molokai off in the distance, this 18-hole course sits over 6,600 yards while playing at a par-72. Designed in 1975 by architects Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane, the Bay Course is Kapalua’s original course and has hosted over 20 major professional tournaments over the years, withstanding the test of time while hosting some of the best players in golf.
The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course
Situated off the tourist track, not far from the Kahului airport, this course comes at a terrific value. Designed by architect Robin Nelson in 1999, The Dunes at Maui Lani offers an 18-hole links-style course that spans 6,423 yards of greenery. As you might gather from the name, the course is spotted with dunes at every corner, offering a challenge at every hole.
Kahili Golf Course
The Kahili Golf Course is considered to be one of Maui’s finest hidden gems. Designed by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright, this exceptional course found its home in 1991 on the hillside of the West Maui Mountains. This 18 hole, par-72 course is situated on 6,560 yards of green hillside — but don’t let the length fool you.
Blue Course at Wailea Golf Club
The Blue Course is one of three exceptional golf courses at the Wailea Golf Club. The traditional resort course was designed by Arthur Jack Snyder, and was the first course built at this club back in 1972. Similar to Royal Ka’anapali in size, the Blue Course stretches to a length of 6,765 yards, offering 18 holes.
Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course at the Ka’anapali Resort
Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., Royal Ka’anapali has been a Maui mainstay since it first opened in 1962. This exquisite 18-hole course runs about 6,700 yards, stretching along the western coastline at sea level before winding its way to the foothills of the West Maui Mountains.
